Whether it’s a weekend or a week or more, it can be hard to get back into the swing of things when you get home from a summer vacation. But the sooner you do, the better you’ll feel, freeing you up to enjoy your summertime at home too. Here are 3 tips to get you back on track:
Prioritize – Once you’ve unloaded the car, there is often an overwhelming amount to do. Bags to be unpacked, gear to put away, grocery shopping and oh the mounds of laundry. You can’t do it all at once, so prioritize what needs to happen first. Is it prepping for a busy Monday, getting food in the house, or maybe responding to a few important emails? Some stuff can and will have to wait, but you’ll be better off if you’ve decided what you really need to get done today.
Put Things Away – Once you’ve tackled the priorities, work diligently to unpack bags and get things back in their place. This way you’ll find things you need when you’re back in the busier schedule of work/camp/activities and you won’t be tripping over bags and suitcases!
Get Back Into Healthy Habits and Routines – Chances are, you weren’t doing all the things you normally do to stay healthy and organized on vacation – morning exercise, meal planning, laundry, checking your email and staying on top of to-do’s. If you let things slide, get back into your routines sooner rather than later. But again, you don’t have to do this all at once – if you were in the habit of exercising 5 days a week, try scheduling 2 or 3 workouts during your first week back and build from there.
Bottom line, don’t stress, just work to get back on track during that first week back. You can enjoy your vacation memories and enjoy the structure of getting back into your groove at home!
